Drug Free Poem #1 by Bub

If this doesn't convince you to stay drug-free, I don't know what will.

In case you can't read it, here's what it says:

My Drug Free Poem #1

How do you be drug free?  Just be like me.  All you have to do is not try it once so you don't get addicted.  But if you do try it, your in for a ride of misery.   That's what red ribbon week is all about right, so let's share the love and not try drugs.  Your still tempted?  Just follow these easy steps:
1.  Try not to try one.
2.  Throw away any drugs you see in your house.
3.  Engurage your parents not to use drugs.

Be Drug Free Like Me!

I hope this helps you in your journey to stay drug free.

Oh hey!

Heh Heh.  Didn't REALLY forget about my blog.  Just took an unplanned, unintentional little break.  That's all!

Anyhow, so to get caught up...  how are you?  And the kids?  Uh huh... yeah, me too!  :)

So, what happens every August, without fail?  That's right.  BACK TO SCHOOL!

I can barely believe that my kids are in 5th and 4th grades this year!  They both moved to new schools this year (not the same as each other), and both are loving it as much now as they did the first day.

So, yeah, the first day...  wanna see?

You know you do!

Okay, since you begged.

Aren't they gorgeous?

Then after school, we continued our annual tradition of going out for ice cream to discuss the ups & downs, ins & outs of the first day.

Then, like almost every year, our cousins met us for the ice cream to discuss the ups & downs, ins & outs of THEIR first day of school, too!

(obviously MUCH to discuss here, huh?!)

The one look of Bub

So, yesterday I showed you all the MANY MANY looks of Sis. She's very artistic, and has a desire to create herself different looks constantly. And then there's Bub. While he's the athletic one in the family, he inherited his artistic talents (or lack thereof!) from his parents (we're STILL not sure where Sis got her talent... not from us!).

Here is Bub's end-of-the-school-year self-portrait:
Looks just like him doesn't it? :)

Along with his self-portrait, he filled out a "Spotlight on Me!" paper...
Here's the close-up version....

I love this format of keeping these memories for them, so they'll have them when they get older (funny drawings and misspellings and all!).

School Projects

My kids bring home a TON of papers each week. I usually flip through them, then put them in "a special file." You know... Oh, don't make me spell it out!!!

Every once in a while, though, they bring things home that make me stop and take notice. Here's a paper Sis had to write the other day. The instructions say: If you could have any job when you grow up what would it be? Tell why and how well you think that you would do that job. How much money do you think that you will earn? (4-8 complete sentences)

In case you can't read it, she wrote: I would like to be a fashion desiner. I would be really good and probibly make 5 to 50 dollars a day. I'd be really good 'cause I know all the latest trends. These are some reasons I'd be a good fashon desiner.

Good news for me: I guess she'll never be able to afford moving out! :)

Then there's Bub... The first day of school, he filled out a form about himself and drew a picture of himself. See?

Did you notice his long yellow hair? And the dancing banana on his t-shirt?

Some of his answers: son of Don and Darla
Lover of God and family (awwwwwww)
Who feels nervous and pooped (what??????????)
Who needs shelter and food
Who gives Happiness and fairness

Here's hoping you're not feeling nervous and pooped!

Apparently summer is over...

Because the kids have started school!!! Yup, already!

And my camera flipped out on me (okay, okay, it was totally user error... I was playing with different settings the other day, and forgot to put it back), so none of my outside photos took. But my INSIDE ones with their teachers worked out.

For comparison's sake, you can see the kids' first day of school last year here.

The kids are bigger this year, they look older, and Bub's got that crazy long hair (I'm on a mission to talk him into cutting it... at least trimming it significantly)!
********************************
In other news, I had my 2nd LASIK surgery 2 weeks ago, and I'm 20/20!!! It's good to see so clearly again! I really think that's one reason I took hardly any pictures this summer... because my vision was blurry, I couldn't ever tell if my pictures were in focus or not!
So, expect more photos now... :)
Have a great weekend!

Nature Hike

Yesterday, I went on the spring field trip with Bub. We went on a nature-ish field trip, where we went on a hike, "got" to get creatures out of the pond with a net to look at in a microscope, do a craft, and then do some "field day" sort of games.

I, being one who prides myself on taking pictures, FORGOT MY CAMERA. So, all these lovely photos are from my camera on my phone. High quality??? Nope.

Bub is right in front of me... notice how EVERYONE is looking on the ground. We're looking for some kind of critters/leaves/anything that helps us mark stuff off our scavenger hunt list.

Like this lovely creature. I have NO idea what it is... but I know we were told not to touch it or it would sting us... that was enough information for me!

If only Bub's hair wasn't in his eyes, you could see his fascination with whatever they're looking at.

They're looking at some kind of leaves. Or critters. Or something. I was paying SUCH close attention, can't you tell?

Their class photo overlooking the river. Bub is in the front middle (all in rock-and-roll black).

Here's one of the "field day" games they were playing. Bub's class was against the other 2nd grade class with us. They were supposed to sit on each other's laps for as long as possible. THAT didn't last very long! Bub is about the 6th one from the left in the closest classroom line.
So, nature's not really my thing, and I was prepared to be completely bored. But I was pleasantly surprised on how fun the day actually was. And Bub LOVED that I came along. And really... isn't that all that really matters???
Happy Thursday!

Cracking myself up!

I am cracking myself up that I am doing a blog... ME! I still write like I'm in first grade sometimes! I have gotten addicted, however, to reading several blogs lately, mostly family members', and it's really helped me to stay caught up in their lives. So, I'm going to try to do the same for them! I'm not as prolific a writer as my siblings, but I can definitely take pictures, so maybe I'll photo-blog!

We are nearing the end of the summer already. Where has it gone??? School registration begins later this week! Sis is going into 3rd grade this year, and Bub is going into 2nd. Their school is K-3, so Sis is VERY excited to be the "big girl on campus" this year.

We are finishing the end of the softball/baseball season (thankfully... it's hotter than all-get-out outside!). Don has coached Bub's team this year... not sure if he'll EVER do that again! hee. So, I've gone mostly to Sis's games, since their games fall on the same night. The biggest difference I've found in beginning softball vs. baseball is that the baseball players yell out encouragement (??) to their teammates, and the softball players make up cheers for them from the bench. No kidding...

So, we'll see if this blog keeps up, or goes away into oblivion after this initial posting....
